Premiership Betting Tips

Premiership Soccer Picks
13th – 14th November 201013th November 2010 Aston Villa (5.5) Draw (3.6) Manchester United (1.83) Villa have many injuries ahead of this game, influential players such as Carew and Heskey. Midweek they were unconvincing in their win over Blackpool. Another draw on the road for Manchester United see the slipping further behind Chelsea. They did beta Stoke though and Manchester City is not as easy place to go. A lack of scoring is a little worrying with only Nani in good form now. Villa has traditionally done badly against Manchester United but in the last 2 seasons this fixture has been a draw. X2 for sure but which one? I prefer the draw as Manchester United haven’t shown they can win against top sides away from home. Its 3.6 at VC Bet. Manchester City (1.44) Draw (4.5) Birmingham (9) City would have been happy with their 0-0 against Manchester United. They are still further behind Chelsea but they are more comfortable in 4th place now. Looks like Mancini will be a little more attacking minded this game after the rather defensive play last game. Birmingham fought back from 2-0 against Stoke to make it 2-2 but then lost with a late goal. Thats a never say die attitude that Birmingham have. The stats aren’t kind to Birmingham on the road this year though, 0-3-3. Home win for me. Its 1.44 at VC Bet. Newcastle United (2) Draw (3.5) Fulham (4.33) Its almost unreal that Newcastle sit 5th. After writing them off at the start of the season, I have to change my opinion. The 1-0 win at Arsenal last week has got to be their finest moment this season for sure. Carroll is scoring for fun. Only problem is that their home form is inconsistent to say the least. Fulham are never good on the road. I can’t remember the last win they had. Certainly not one this season. They do draw a lot games though. Draw at Villa last week. I am willing to bet on the home win here. Newcastle have been hammering teams when they have won (6-0 and 5-1) at home so I’ll take a chance and got for Newcastle -1 on the 1X2 handicap at 3.6 at bet365. The straight win is 2.0. Tottenham (1.67) Draw (4) Blackburn (6) Spurs seemed to have peaked with their win at Inter. A loss at Blackburn then a draw at home to Sunderland see their chances of hitting 4th place again look slim even at this early stage of the season. Injuries to key players are costing them. Pavlyuchenko, Keanne and Defoe are all out. As for Blackburn, they have found their goal scorer in Jason Roberts. Excellent win for them at Newcastle midweek. 2 wins on the bounce for them now, both 2-1. Poor odds for Spurs considering their injuries and Blackburn’s recent form. For some reason though, teams outside the top 4 seem to struggle to string a 3 wins in a row together. I am going for an overs bet. Over 2.5 is 1.88 at bet365. Blackburn can score so Spurs will have to score 2 to win. West Ham (1.95) Draw (3.8) Blackpool (4.33) West Ham are in deep trouble now and this could be one of the most important games of the season for them. Surely if they are fighting a relegation battle it will be against Blackpool. They seem to have problems keeping leads. Grant should really be getting them to shut up shop once they go ahead. Blackpool may have been a little unlucky against Villa midweek. Just when it looked like they scored a late goal to take a point, Villa score again. Blackpool are a strange team. On paper they should not be in the Premiership but they just keep nicking the odds point here and there. Looks like an overs game but the odds are shocking for that. I think I will go for the Blackpool win. No way is 1.95 good for a team at the bottom of the table with only 1 win all season. I’ll go for them on the Asian Handicap. Its 2.05 +0.5 goals at bet365. Wigan (2.6) Draw (3.3) West Bromwich (3) A couple of strong performance recently for Wigan but only a single point. They’ll be happy with the point against Liverpool midweek though. Its not very often Wigan have gotten anything off the big teams. West Brom got out of jail a couple of times against West Ham. Twice they were behind but twice they manged to pull it back. I sort of think that maybe West Brom’s excellent run has come to an end now and the odds don’t fully reflect that. I’ll be backing Wigan. Its 2.6 at VC Bet. Wolverhampton (2.4) Draw (3.3) Bolton (3.25) Wolves have been playing well recently but against the opposition, they probably wouldn’t have even expected 3 points before the run. Chelsea, City, Manchester United and Arsenal all in row is harsh for any team. They did manage to beat City and played fantastic against Arsenal and Manchester United. Bolton will should be a more winnable game. Bolton are a tough nut to crack nowadays. They were only seconds away from beating Everton midweek. They manged to knock 4 past Spurs last week too with Kevin Davis getting 2. I will back Wolves this game. If they don’t win this, they look like they will be fighting it out at the end of season for relegation. Playing well and losing, unfortunately, doesn’t get you any points. Wolves win is 2.4 at VC Bet. Stoke (3.75) Draw (3.4) Liverpool (2.2) Stoke won their last game against Birmingham with a late goal. Not a very convincing win but at least they managed to score 3 goals and we all know goals win games. Liverpool were excellent in their win over Chelsea. Maybe they put too much effort in to it because against Wigan they looked tired and a draw was a good result considering Wigan were the better side on the day. I am still not convince this Liverpool side is good enough to be backed away from home at 2.2 yet. Much better value on the draw I think. Its 3.4 at Totesport. Everton (3.4) Draw (3.4) Arsenal (2.3) Everton are still an in form team despite a week of draws. Maybe they should have won those to be considered ‘in form’ but Bolton are a tough team to beat and Blackpool just seem to be playing above their level every week. Just when you think Arsenal are going to make a fight for the title, they go do something stupid like lose at home to Newcastle. They badly need to shoot more. They 2-0 scoreline at Wolves was a little flattening to them and Wolves didn’t really deserve to lose that game. For this, I think Everton are way over priced. I see this as an even contest so 2.5 maybe so the 3.4 at VC Bet is great. They’ll also want revenge for last season’s 6-1 thrashing. Chelsea (1.25) Draw (6.5) Sunderland (17) Chelsea seem to be stuttering their way to their now rather than cruising. A loss at Liverpool and 1-0 win at home to Fulham isn’t spectacular but no one else seems to be able to capitalise on it. They will miss Essien for this game which will be a big blow. Stanford Bridge has been an absolute fortress for them this season. They have won all 7 games and conceding zero goals. That run must come to an end sometime though. Sunderland responded well to the 5-1 thrashing at Newcastle with a win at Stoke and good draw at Spurs. Their away record still sucks though. I have been profiting from betting Chelsea to win to nil at home so I am not going to change a winning system. Its going to end sometime but might as well keeping betting on it while it works. It’s 1.83 at bet365.

NASCAR Gambling – Ford 400 at Homestead Motor Speedway
It’s the final race of the NASCAR season and Jimmie Johnson has pretty much secured his third straight NASCAR Cup. It’s an amazing feat. I’m not sure anybody else has ever done that. Of course, the rules changed recently which allowed Johnson to coast through the regular season, just enough to get into the Chase, where he knew that his crew and his cars would outrun everybody….

In online soccer betting, money wagered on a winning team that stages an upset pays out more money that bets placed on a favored team that wins. That is because the total amount paid out to winning bets comes from the pool of money spent on all the losing bets.

Pettitte’s return to Yankees spoiled by Mariners (Yahoo! Sports)

Pettitte’s return to Yankees spoiled by Mariners (Yahoo! Sports)
NEW YORK (AP) Andy Pettitte stood on the mound at Yankee Stadium with his hat pulled down low, peering in at the catcher over the glove held high in front of his face. It’s an image Yankees fans know well. This time, though, No. 46 was back on a big league mound for the first time in a year and a half. It was hard to tell. Pettitte pitched effectively into the seventh inning Sunday, but gave up a pair of two-run homers in New York’s 6-2 loss to the Seattle Mariners. ”To me, he looked like he hadn’t missed a beat,” Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. Nearly lost amid the excitement over Pettitte’s first major league appearance since retiring after the 2010 season was party crasher Kevin Millwood’s performance for Seattle – helped by three double plays. The 37-year-old Millwood (1-4) gave up three hits in seven innings and got his 2,000th career strikeout as Seattle avoided a three-game sweep. The Yankees tried to prevent their old pal Pettitte from taking the loss with a rally in the eighth against four Seattle relievers. Robinson Cano was walked with two outs by Charlie Furbush with the bases loaded to make it 4-2. Mark Teixeira, though, struck out to end the inning. The lovefest for Pettitte (0-1) began when the lefty appeared with several players in videos welcoming fans to Yankee Stadium after batting practice. The cheers grew as he strolled out to the bullpen for warm-ups and fans rose for a standing ovation when the five-time World Series champion followed his teammates onto the field for the first inning. ”I just cannot believe how comfortable this is for me,” Pettitte said. ”I don’t know how to explain it.” The Core Four member who turns 40 next month even got special treatment from the Bleacher Creatures. They broke protocol after their roll call and started a chant for Pettitte that most of the 41,631 in attendance joined. The Creatures rarely include the starting pitcher when calling out player’s names in the first inning. The stadium got awful quiet when Casper Wells homered in the sixth to give Seattle a 4-1 lead with his first of the season, an opposite-field drive off the netting on the right-field pole. Justin Smoak homered for Seattle’s first hit with two outs in the fourth. ”I thought it was so awesome. I was so excited. I know we lost today and that’s what a lot of people are going to focus on – I could really care less about that,” Yankees outfielder Nick Swisher said. ”We got our boy back.” Pettitte’s return had become more important to the Yankees because their rotation had been struggling, with Freddy Garcia demoted to the bullpen. But through the first five games of this homestand, the team’s starters were 4-0 with a 1.31 ERA and Girardi thought their performance would take some of the pressure off Pettitte. The broad-chested Texan appeared calm as ever in his first big league start in 573 days, since Game 3 of the AL championship series against Texas on Oct. 18, 2010. He sat out last season before deciding in mid-March to make a comeback. After Swisher caught leadoff batter Dustin Ackley’s fly to right with a leap at the wall, Pettitte walked Wells. He then got Ichiro Suzuki to ground into a double play. Pettitte walked Alex Liddi with two outs in the second but Mike Carp grounded out to end the inning. Not having allowed a hit two outs into the fourth, Pettitte walked former Yankees prospect Jesus Montero and Smoak lined a homer to left. Pettitte showed characteristically little emotion on the mound. Wells homered following Ackley’s leadoff single in the sixth. The Mariners then loaded the bases with one out on three straight singles but Girardi stuck with Pettitte, and Carp grounded to first. Teixeira stepped on the base and threw home, and catcher Russell Martin tagged a sliding Montero. Pettitte returned for one batter in the seventh and induced his 12th groundball out. He left to a loud ovation despite trailing 4-1 and waved to fans as he entered the dugout. ”There is not a question in my mind how this is all going to play out for me,” Pettitte said. ”It’s not about this one start. I’ll measure if this was a successful return or not at the end of October.” Millwood almost missed out on the 2011 season, too, but not by choice. He spent much of the season in the minors with the Yankees and Red Sox before joining the Colorado Rockies’ rotation in August. He signed with Seattle in the offseason. ”I thought he was outstanding today,” Mariners manager Eric Wedge said. ”He did a great job with his secondary stuff.” Millwood had little trouble in his best start of the season. With runners on first and second in the third, he got Derek Jeter to ground into the first of his two double plays. Jeter also hit into an inning-ending double play after Millwood walked Martin to force in a run in the fifth. Alex Rodriguez grounded sharply into a 6-4-3 double play after a leadoff walk to Curtis Granderson, one of four walks by Millwood. ”We turned some big double plays,” Millwood said. Millwood fanned Granderson leading off the fourth for his 2,000th career strikeout. NOTES: Jeter’s single in the eighth was hit No. 3,142, tying him for 16th place on the career list with Robin Yount. … Wells’ homer was the Mariners’ first hit with runners in scoring position this series. They were 0 for 10 coming in.

A look at the Miami Heat and Indiana Pacers, from your pal

A look at the Miami Heat and Indiana Pacers, from your pal
This picture was taken in Indianapolis, and I’m sure this youngster’s father is a swell guy (Getty Images) Hey. It’s Kelly. That wasn’t fun, was it? The silly lockout, the terrible season, the Dwight Howard, and that awful first round. It’s OK, though. It’s over now. That is a bird chirping in the distance, I made a pretty good sandwich for your lunch and we don’t have anything to do when you get home from work but watch a series of basketball games played by players that are rested, well-instructed, and mindful of what town they’re in. You’re going to feel better, now. Your pal insists on it. That’s what these columns are about — helping you feel better about the series you’re about to watch. Let’s leave the analysis and sometimes-hurtful criticism to others. That stuff can sting, you know. Let’s also talk about the Miami Heat and Indiana Pacers. It’s OK. You have to remember that, while you ponder the obstacles that might have been in place had Derrick Rose not hurt himself two weeks ago, or had Dwight Howard not frittered away his team’s season. If you’re the type that delights in the misfortune of the most talented, of the biggest and baddest bear of them all, go ahead. I don’t think it’s healthy, and I don’t think it’s right, but who am I to judge? If you delight in anything, then good for you. This is your time, pal. And nobody can that from you. You ever scratch a dog’s chin so perfectly that his hind legs shake? That’s the business, isn’t it? So don’t feel awful, for wishing and hoping for obstacles to stick in front of these Miami Heat. It’s only natural, and you’ve likely been doing it for years — hoping against the Lakers, or against the Bulls before that. And, in the form of a well-coached and sometimes snippy outfit from Indiana, the Heat might just have a whale of a series on their hands. Sure, Miami had its way with Indiana during the regular season. And though the Pacers’ cadre of athletic, versatile wing performers was matched and eclipsed by Miami’s even stouter cadre of the same types, playoff ascension and a stated role as the designated underdog tend to change things. You play with abandon, if you’re those plucky Indiana Pacers, because even though most observers have you taking a game or two in this series, nobody that I can see actually has you winning it. Play freely! Another reason to watch, dear reader, is because you may not have seen much of the Indiana Pacers this year. Every waking moment of the Miami Heat’s professional lives has been on camera since July of 2010, but Indiana isn’t on national TV much. The team’s first round lived almost exclusively on NBA TV (except for the times it didn’t, lol!), and worryingly the state that loves to get all snooty about its love for basketball gave the East’s third-best team the fifth-worst attendance in the NBA. This is bordering on hurtful. I’ll pull back. As an aside, I’ve had really fresh and rare raw tuna. And yet I derive just as much pleasure from the stuff that comes in a can. We need to remember this, any time life gives us the downsies. The Miami Heat is 174 games into their well-heeled experiment, and yet you still get the feeling that the team needs reps above all. And even if these Pacers fall short — if Paul George continues to run in place, if Darren Collison betrays the advancements we’ve seen from him over the last couple of weeks — they’ll likely give the Heat the sort of looks they’re going to need to build on in anticipation of taking on any number of Western conference squads (as of Saturday afternoon, all five active teams look Finals-worthy, and that’s not the optimist talking) in the Finals. (We wouldn’t presume to dismiss the Boston Celtics there, should they move past the Philadelphia 76ers in their first round series. It’s just that Miami has seen these Celtics, plenty of times, since the 2010-11 season started. They’re familiar. That’s all. We’re all fans.) The Pacers and Heat could give us a truly entertaining playoff run, filled with all-out transition play that could exasperate and yet thrill at the same time. Both these teams played at middling paces during the regular season, but the combination of exacting coaching and long missed shots could give us quite a bit of fast break fun. And if not, well, the Pacers are in the second round! They’re new! (Although seriously I was at a banquet honoring a sporting event on Friday night in Lafayette, Indiana; and five different people asked me how the “Pacers did this year” after learning what I did for a living. As if they weren’t about to play the odds-on favorite for the NBA title later this weekend.) (Deep breath.) You’ll have fun with this series, friends. It’s the right mix of athleticism and intrigue, even if it ends more quickly than we’d like. In 49 other states, it’s just basketball. In Indiana? I’m your pal. Heat in six.

Trotz sitting Radulov, Kostitsyn again vs Coyotes (Yahoo! Sports)

Trotz sitting Radulov, Kostitsyn again vs Coyotes (Yahoo! Sports)
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) Predators coach Barry Trotz is sitting forwards Alexander Radulov and Andrei Kostitsyn for Game 4 against Phoenix on Friday night because he doesn’t want to change a winning formula. The Predators suspended Radulov and Kostitsyn for Wednesday night’s 2-0 victory, which pulled Nashville within 2-1 in the Western Conference semifinal. Whether they returned to the lineup was left to Trotz, and the coach announced his decision Friday after a morning skate. ”The decision for me was pretty simple,” Trotz said. ”The group that went in there was very committed and got the job done plain and simple. Alex and Andrei are good players. They’re top players. At the same time, I felt that the group responded really well, and I expect the group to respond again.” Trotz said Radulov and Kostitsyn clearly want to play and will be ready. Injuries or other circumstances Friday night could result in a lineup change. ”They’re really good about being good pros, which got them in trouble in the first place. They understand,” Trotz said. ”They’re ready to do whatever it takes to get back in. If it means having to sit this game or the next game or whatever, as long as we’re winning we’re OK. They’re fine. We have to win. If someone doesn’t play well or they’re injured, they’re ready to go.” Radulov is Nashville’s top scorer in the postseason with six points despite missing the last game. Kostitsyn has three goals, tied for the team lead. ”As long as we’re winning, it’s fine,” Radulov said. ”It’s long playoffs.” Phoenix coach Dave Tippett also said he doesn’t plan a lineup change. Lauri Korpikoski has missed two games with an undisclosed injury. Tippett said Korpikoski wants to play but is not able to now.

Twins power their way back to beat Angels 10-9 (Yahoo! Sports)

Twins power their way back to beat Angels 10-9 (Yahoo! Sports)
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) Justin Morneau hit a two-run, go-ahead homer in the eighth inning and the Minnesota Twins rallied from six runs down to beat the Los Angeles Angels 10-9 on Thursday. Joe Mauer went deep, too, hitting a three-run shot off Dan Haren in the fifth that cut into a 6-0 lead the Angels built against Francisco Liriano. Every Twins batter had at least one of the team’s 20 hits, enough to make up for the 14 men left on base, including eight in scoring position. Denard Span had four hits, including an infield single that tied it at 6 in the seventh inning. On the play, he reached first at the same time as Scott Downs, stomping down on top of the reliever’s foot with his cleat. Downs right ankle rolled awkwardly and he left the game what the team called a bruise. Peter Bourjos’ RBI single off Brian Duensing, whose wild pitch let Vernon Wells take second, put the Angels in front again in the eighth – for a few minutes. Mauer singled off Rich Thompson (0-1), and Morneau followed with his first home run of the season. He had left seven runners on before that. The Twins tacked on two more runs, and the drama didn’t stop there. Jeff Gray (2-0) picked up the victory, and Matt Capps notched his second save despite giving the Angels two runs back. Albert Pujols, 5 for 23 with his new team, singled to start the ninth and reached third when Torii Hunter’s possible double-play ball skipped off second base for a fluke single. Mark Trumbo cut the lead to two with an RBI single, Wells beat out another potential double-play ball and another run scored on a fielder’s choice to first. Chris Iannetta’s slow roller to third ended the game with a runner on second. Maicer Izturis had a two-run single in a five-run second inning and stole two of the Angels’ five bases. Trumbo homered and scored a run in the fifth on Wells’ two-out ground-rule double when he walked and stole a base. Josh Willingham started a three-run seventh with his fourth of Minnesota’s six home runs this year. After hitting 28 home runs and winning the American League Most Valuable Player award in 2009, Mauer has only gone deep 13 times – and just twice at Target Field, plus one in an exhibition game when the ballpark first opened in 2010. During that MVP season, he routinely pulled the ball to left, but most of the limited power he’s shown in his career has been to the opposite field. With all the problems he’s had staying healthy, particularly last season while fighting weakness and soreness in his legs, Mauer has infrequently been behind the plate for matinees following night games. But Mauer hasn’t been held back so far this spring, and manager Ron Gardenhire didn’t hesitate to slot him in the lineup as Liriano’s catcher for this one. ”I didn’t ask,” Gardenhire said, grinning before the game. Roughed up by the Kansas City Royals in his first start, Haren was remarkably hittable again, but he was tough when he needed to be against the two left-handed hitters. Mauer struck out and Morneau flied out to the warning track with Span on third in the first. Mauer’s infield pop out and Morneau’s lazy fly followed a bases-loaded, one-out situation in the third. But Mauer, who was booed after his weak pop, got one back in a big way in his next at-bat. Liriano’s allowed 15 hits and five walks in over nine innings this year. Pitching coach Rick Anderson paid a visit in the second, when Trumbo started the inning by crushing a drive to the second deck above left-center field. Another run scored when Mauer one-hopped his throw to second base during a double steal for an error. Liriano finished five innings, giving up seven hits, six runs – five earned – and three walks with two strikeouts. Haren lasted the same, allowing nine hits, three runs and one walk with seven strikeouts. NOTES: The Angels announced RH Jerome Williams as their starter for Sunday’s game in New York against the Yankees. Williams started the season on the DL with a strained left hamstring, but he was expected to be in their rotation all along. With an off day this week, they only needed four starters for the first turn through. … With RH Jason Marquis making his final minor league tuneup start on Thursday and RH Scott Baker set for season-ending elbow surgery, the fifth spot in the rotation has become a competition between RH Anthony Swarzak, who pitches on Friday, and RH Liam Liam Hendriks, who takes the mound on Sunday. One of them will take the remaining open slot next week when Marquis rejoins the team. … The opening homestand doesn’t get any easier for the Twins when the Texas Rangers arrive on Friday for a three-game series. LH Matt Harrison, who threw six scoreless innings to win his first start, takes the mound for the Rangers. Swarzak took the loss in his first turn, giving up one run in five innings.

5 Statements Made on Moving Day at the 2012 Masters: Fan’s Look (Yahoo! Contributor Network)

5 Statements Made on Moving Day at the 2012 Masters: Fan’s Look (Yahoo! Contributor Network)
Saturday at The Masters is frequently known as “moving day” for a very good reason – it’s often where the the tournament is won or lost. At The 2012 Masters during Round 3, the action was non-stop as players moved up and down the leaderboard, providing countless memories for years to come. There are often the shots that are remembered among the annals of golf history made on this day. Here are several key highlights and stories to watch for heading into Sunday: No Tiger, no problem. Tiger Woods struggled once again, but fans of the game will still have plenty to watch on Sunday as Phil Mickelson and a host of other notable players are in contention to win the coveted event. Though anything can happen in the sport of golf, Woods has no real chance of walking away a winner after struggling with a 75 on Saturday. It will be interesting to see how his final round goes, though, and whether or not he can find his putting stroke that has abandoned him lately. Phil can give golf a boost with a win. I’ve written that Phil Mickelson brings excitement to the game like only a handful of current players can. Sunday will be an opportunity for him to bring some fanfare back to a game that has struggled as Woods has not played well. To have both he and Woods playing well and in the top-10 together would generate massive interest in the sport. More importantly, Mickelson could put his stamp back on the game and continue to build on an eventual hall-of-fame career. He’ll have to overcome a one-shot deficit behind Peter Hanson, who leads the event through 54 holes. Bubba looks ready. The man with incredible length off the tee showed us plenty more to his game on Sunday. Though he hasn’t putted well through three rounds, he has certainly given himself a real chance at winning the first major of his career. He was able to cap his solid round of 70 off with a birdie on the 18th hole after a tremendous sequence of shots that displayed his power and precision. As well-rounded as he is, it’s seemingly a matter of when, not if, he wins a major. If Sunday’s the day, it’ll be fun to watch. No redemption likely for Rory. Rory McIlroy didn’t enjoy moving day. He started off with a double bogey and never quite recovered as he finished with a 5-over par 77. He did manage to end the day on a positive note, knocking his approach shot on the 18th to within a foot of the hole. That birdie left him at 1-over for the tournament and effectively out of contention for the title. Perhaps he can gather momentum on the final day and use it as fuel to win his second consecutive U.S. Open. Can “Kuch” break through? Matt Kuchar battled through some adversity, including a bogey on the par-5 15th. A six on a par-5 can take the air right out of a good round, but Kuchar pressed on . He still finished with a 2-under 70 and is only four strokes behind the 54-hole leader. After a brilliant amateur career, he is playing much better of late after having difficulty matching that success in his professional career. A major would finally see his full potential realized. Don’t forget about Hunter. Hunter Mahan has been playing well, as evidenced by his two victories on the PGA TOUR in 2012. He’s got the golf swing, the experience, and the demeanor to take the next big step in his career and win a major. His most recent win was the week prior to The Masters at The Shell Houston Open. He should have plenty of confidence going into Sunday’s final round. Michael C. Jones is a Yahoo! Featured Contributor in Sports and PGA Professional, following all developments on the PGA TOUR. TCU players formally charged in drug investigation (Yahoo! Sports)

TCU players formally charged in drug investigation (Yahoo! Sports)
FORT WORTH, Texas (AP)—Three more TCU football players have been charged with felony marijuana delivery after a six-month sting. Defensive tackle D.J. Yendrey, linebacker Tanner Brock and offensive tackle Ty Horn are among 14 people charged Thursday in the TCU drug investigation, bringing the total number charged to 23. All three are charged with delivering a quarter-ounce to five pounds of marijuana. Cornerback Devin Johnson was charged last month with three cases of delivering a quarter-ounce to five pounds of marijuana. TCU coach Gary Patterson.(Getty Images) Convictions could mean up to two years in state jail for Brock, Horn and Johnson. A conviction could mean up to 10 years in prison for Yendrey, who’s charged with delivering in a drug-free zone. The four are accused of selling marijuana to undercover officers, sometimes arranging deals around practices.

by Timothy Masters on March 31, 2012 As the Britain’s Got Talent circus draws ever closer to its dream-making, heart-breaking conclusion it seems now is the time to have a little look at what chances the bookies give each act of taking the much-coveted prize and all that comes with it. Amanda Holden, Simon Cowell, David Walliams and Alesha Dixon have the job of deciding which of those acts goes on to take the prize, and with the pressure and emotional intensity on display I don’t envy them their position. First up are the operatic Charlotte and Jonathon, available at 4/1 with StanJames. You could tell that the closest Simon saw them coming to an operatic performance was an operation for a gastric band before the portly male and his rather more photogenic partner opened their cake-holes, but the talent is plain to see and the success in recent years of the likes of Susan Boyle, and to some extent Adele proves the public will look past appearances and judge people on quality. Next we have Only Boys Aloud, at 12/1 with SportingBet, and I’m pretty sure that choice of name didn’t do them any favours in avoiding bullying, but they aren’t a bad choir. The problem is that their success currently relies on the staggering ignorance of the judges, who are unaware that singing of that quality is far from rare in the valleys, and that could eventually count against the Welsh group. Young Sam Kelly, a 14/1 shot with SkyBet, is a decent singer, but looks more suited to a slightly different show, something like Channel 4 would run. Although he isn’t going to fill an arena with noise his youth and homespun appeal could make him a decent outside bet, especially if teenage girls get permission to vote from their parents. It may be difficult for him to sing alongside the stronger, classical types, but with some luck the contrast will work in his favour. Outside the favourites group sit The Sugar Dandies, who are 80/1 with BWin, and Dennis Egel at 200/1 with SkyBet. These are those people voted through by the public, mainly to see Simon squirm when faced with the fact his show is not all he would wish, but I’d personally be amazed if the all-male ballroom dancers (you know why they wear baggy trousers? Ballroom) or the German eccentric troubled the final reckoning. Whoever takes the prize, it is sure to be a huge event with many bells and whistles. Parcells as Saints coach? OK with NFL commish (Yahoo! Sports)
NEW YORK (AP)—NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said the league is meeting with players’ union officials about possible player punishments in the New Orleans Saints bounty case. Goodell said that after Monday’s meeting he hopes “we’ll have some information and hopefully a recommendation from the NFLPA.” The union has asked the NFL to provide it with all the information from the league’s investigation that revealed 22 to 27 defensive players were part of the Saints’ pay-for-pain bounty pool, which awarded thousands of dollars of cash bonuses from 2009-11 for vicious hits that knocked targeted opponents out of games. Goodell also said the meeting on Saints coach Sean Payton’s appeal of his one-year suspension will take place this week, but was unsure when. Also appealing their suspensions are assistant coach Joe Vitt and general manager Mickey Loomis. The team is appealing its $500,000 fine and the loss of draft picks. “I think we all need to move forward,” Goodell said.
