Texas coach Mack Brown is keeping his rebuilding project private — for now. The Longhorns began spring practice Thursday with five new assistant coaches after last season’s disastrous 5-7 finish, and Brown is keeping all of spring drills closed to the public until the annual team scrimmage on April 3.

A Birmingham attorney plans to represent the man accused of poisoning the oak trees at Toomer’s Corner on Auburn’s campus after three predecessors withdrew. Glennon Threatt Jr. said Wednesday he has spoken with Harvey Updyke Jr. “extensively about the case” by phone and filed a notice of appearance in Lee County Circuit Court.
